Questions About Matches

Do I need to be a member to participate in club matches?
No, you do not need to be a member and except for Trap on Wednesday mornings, there is no charge. You do have to follow all Chatuge Range Rules.

What matches are available?
There are many matches available, if you are looking to shoot a pistol, rifle or shotgun you will find something that will interest you. To see the list of matches and descriptions, go to the Matches-Description & Rules page on the website.  Read about the matches and decide what you want to try.  You are always welcome to come out to any match to watch, there may be extra guns, and you can give it a try, you may get hooked.  If you come out to watch, you will need protection for your eyes and ears.

What facilities are at the Range?
The Range does not have any running water, so bring water and/or other drinks, NO ALCOHOL.  There is a Port-A-John, but no other facilities.  Bring a lunch and/or snacks.  Many matches take a short time out for lunch. Please do not put any food or wrappers in the trash cans. Just like hiking, pack it in and pack it out.

What do I need to bring with me?
After reading about the match you will be shooting in, bring the firearm(s) and ammunition. Bring eye protection and hearing protection for the shooter and anyone just watching.  Always arrive ahead of the start time listed, and if you are able to help with range setup, that is always appreciated.  When you get to the Range, check the yellow cold range lights. If the lights are flashing, do not handle a firearm. Check in with the match director, get your name on the sign in sheet and ask any questions you may have. In most matches, if you get to the Range ahead of start time you will be able to sight in your firearm (bring your own sighting target) and get in a little practice.

What are the rules during a match?
Before the match starts, the match director will go over the course of fire and the rules of the match. In some matches we request to keep chatter down to a minimum, to allow shooters to concentrate on their targets. When the match director calls the range cold, and the cold range lights are flashing, you may load magazines, but do not handle any firearm for any reason.  Often times you will be asked to remain behind the yellow line. In many matches you will shoot from the red firing line, but the match director will set the firing line.

Air Gun Pistol & Rifle
The Chatuge Gun Club also has Air Gun Matches held at an indoor location, not at the range. Click here to see the details about the Air Gun Matches.

Be alert!
On occasion we have unwanted visitors on the range property. Please be aware of where you step, as to not have an encounter with a snake.

We welcome new shooters, young and seasoned, and hope you have a great time at our range.
